Aged; 2 years & 6 months {illegitimate] Remarks; This child has been taken charge of by one Hill, Royal Oak Public House Watchman Street, and was allowed to wander about the street in filth and dirt. The father is a drunken man living with another woman near North West Bay. Child is Illegitimate ** Spelling of surnames as per the Registers **

CHILDREN: James LOWRIE Margaret LOWRY b. 25 Sept 1855 (note registered as "Lowery" and mother's name as "Millan". Mary LOWRY B. 4 JULY 1854 John LOWRIE 5 July 1861: Application made by father, Robert Lowrie of Adelaide St. Hobart to admit the above children to the Queens Orphanage, Hobart. Mother is Mary Melon, now at a brothel in Watchorn St. Hobart. Decision made not to approve admission. 4 Feb 1864: James & Margaret Lowry admitted to Queens Orphan School. Numerous other documents re the admission.

Aged 19yrs; single woman; a cloth cap maker; 5'1"; fresh complexion, freckled; black hair; Hazel eyes; Roman Catholic; can read & write. Native place: Glasgow, Scotland. Father: James Mother: Mary Sister: Ann Work services in the Colony. 6 Sept 1853:Application for permission to marry - to Andrew LOWRY. 31 May 1854 Marriage to Andrew LOWRY at the Cathederal Church of St. David, Hobart. (note - name is indexed as Melton) 5 Feb 1856: Ticket of Leave granted. 21 July 1856: Absconded from husband. Ticket of Leave revoked.
