At Cambridge assizes, -Wm. Dockerell, for stealing beans, and John Maskey, for stealing stockings, were each sentenced to 7 years' transportation. Stamford Mercury, 22 March 1805.

After being sentenced on the 12 March 1805 John was transported to Portsmouth where he was incarcerated for a period of 22 months. He was imprisoned on the Moored Hulk named "CAPTIVITY" at Portsmouth until the 2nd January and taken to the Duke of Portland which set sail on the 7th January 1807.

John is listed as a farmer, but he was much more than that. He was also a Horse Breeder, horse trainer and trader and a Police Constable.

After Conviction was sent to the Prison Hulk "Captivity" with 3 other Prisoners from that days court proceedings. John spent 22 months there before being delivered to the Duke of Portland for his transportation. He left the "Captivity" in Jan 1807. Arrived in NSW, Australia on the 27 July 1807.

John married Mary Pritchard (Convict; Glatton, 1803), August 28 1826 at Castlereagh, Sydney. They had clearly lived in a defacto realtionship for a long period before this and had 9 children between 1809 and 1829.
