ESCAPE OF PRISONERS FROM NEWGATE. At ten o’clock yesterday morning, six prisoners escaped from Newgate. Five them were, we understand, under sentence of transportation, and the sixth was to be tried this Commission, for the robbery of Mr. Wall, a pawnbroker. Saunders’s News-Letter, 1 Sep 1829. Escape of Prisoners from Newgate. In about a couple of hours after their escape had been discovered, Peace-officer apprehended one them, a fellow named Thomas Cunningham, Kevin-street. Cunningham was quite drunk, and would not state how had made his escape. An investigation into the circumstances is to take place this day in Newgate. The following were the prisoners who escaped: Laurence Leonard, pick-pocket; Thomas Quigly, confined for highway robbery, Christopher Byrne, robbery off jaunting car; Michael Mason, burglary, and Thomas Field, for the robbery Mr. Wall’s. Thomas Cunningham, for burglary, has been retaken. Dublin Weekly Register, 5 Sep 1829.
