Family connections for Sarah (Mason) are: This contribution replaces earlier contribution of 2020. MASON Sarah (Mason) was born about 1769/76. She was tried for receiving goods (clothing), on about 13 6 1792, of William (Thomas) at Old Bailey on 4 7 1792, sentenced to 7years, held at Middlesex Gaol Delivery & arrived in NSW as a convict on 16 1 1793 after a voyage of 6months on BELLONA; she was sent to Parramatta on 17 1 1793. She had a first relationship with John (Peake) & produced a child.>>> [Some details taken from this Website] John (Peake) arrived in NSW as a convict on 9 7 1791 after a voyage of 6months on Fleet ship ACTIVE. He was Free by Servitude by 1798. John (Peake) does not have an entry on this Website as yet: added by me. Sarah (Mason) & John (Peake) produced 1child: 1.John (Peake) was born on 21 9 1798 & baptised on 24 3 1799 at St Phillips CofE Sydney. .. >>>Sarah (Mason) had a second relationship with Frederick (Meredith his fourth relationship), produced perhaps 6children & later married him. She was issued her Certificate of Freedom on 5 3 1810. She married Frederick (Meredith now a baker) on 26 7 1811 at St Phillips CofE Sydney. She died on 30 7 1832 age56 mother of perhaps 7children. Frederick (Meredith) was born in 1763. He became a seaman on First Fleet ships in 1788 & returned to UK. He arrived again in NSW as a seaman on 27 1 1788 after a voyage of 12months on First Fleet ship SCARBOROUGH. He had a first relationship (1of4) with Mary (Allen her first relationship (1of6)). He had a second relationship (2of4) with Ann (Case her first relationship). He had a third relationship (3of4) with Mary (Kirk her first relationship). He was a baker in 1811. He was the first Chief Constable in Liverpool district in 1830s. He died in 1836 age73 father of 9children. The Proceedings of the Old Bailey JOHN SPENCER, LETITIA STEVENS, SARAH MASON, Theft > grand larceny, Theft > receiving, 4th July 1792. 336. JOHN SPENCER , was indicted for stealing, on the 12th of June last, six linen shifts bodies, value 4 s. four aprons, value 8 s. a velveret waistcoat, value 2 s. and a pair of velveret breeches, value 5 s. the property of William Thomas . And LETITIA STEVENS and SARAH MASON were indicted for receiving the said goods, knowing them to be stolen . WILLIAM THOMAS sworn. I am a broker in Maiden-lane; the prisoner Spencer worked for me a month: I lost the things; they were taken from a closet. The different pawnbrokers produced the things pawned by the other prisoners. (The things deposed to.) JOHN SPENCER , GUILTY . Transported for seven years . LETITIA STEVENS , SARAH MASON , (Aged 16.) GUILTY . Transported for fourteen years . She met and later married free settler Frederick Meredith (1763-1836)and had 9 children (7 girls and 2 boys), two of whom where to die in infancy.(https://issuu.com/portmacquarieindependent3/docs/your_local_independent_8_february_2)see page 19 "Historic family gathering". Their marriage date was 26 Feb 1811 at St Philips Church, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia.

She appeared at the Old Bailey London (court) on 5th June1792 with Lydia Stephens charged with receiving stolen goods. The goods consisted of 6 (six) linen shifts bodies, valued 4 shillings, 4 (four) aprons valued 8 shillings 1 (one) velvet waistcoat value 2 shillings 1 (one) pair velvet breeches value 5 shillings The value of these four items of clothing totalled 19 shillings. ‘Bellona’at Deptford England on 28th July 1792 and sailed from Dover England a week later on the 8th day of August 1792. The Bellona was a square sterned ship of 472 tons built on the River Thames in 1782. It was registered to a group of London merchants comprising of William Boyd, William Hamilton, Michael Tonnay and John Brickwood. Matthew Boyd, younger brother of William was the Captain. He was 23 years old. 16th day of January 1793 The ‘Bellona’ anchored at the entrance of Sydney Cove. The convict women were sent up to Parramatta on 17 January. It took 163 days to get to the Colony of New South Wales. Frederick Meredith a baker, who Sarah later wed, was one of three single men on board. He had been a First Fleet seaman and was returning to New South Wales. She received her Certificate of Emancipation (pardon) on 5th March 1810 long after her sentence had expired. This meant that she was ‘restored to all the rights of free subjects and were ‘henceforth to be respected accordingly. Sarah and Frederick Meredith married in 1811. Their relationship started in 1800 . They had six children. (Sources to suit)
