Convict Notes
Further to the notice above regarding missing friends. Richard's mother Rebecca Wreford nee Phippen had passed away in 1859 in Venice in the state of New York. Richard, Rebecca and an Blanche Wreford saled for America in 1844, following their daughter Eliza and her husband Richard Nippers. 1859 saw the deaths of both Rebecca and Eliza Nippers and in late 1860 Richard Nippers, all in Venice. By the 1861 census Richard Wreford was back in Clevedon Somersetshire and by 1871 he was residing with his grand-daughter Alison and her husband Albion Durban. He died in 1874 in Clevedon. Richard and Rebecca other son Samuel Phippen Wreford also emigrated to America in the 1849's and was settled in Montgomery Alabama in 1850 census. He married had a family and died in Montgomery in 1863. Old Oakwood Cemetery Samuel Phippin Wreford A large underground mausoleum built into the hillside near the railroad track, with only its entrance showing. This was builtby Samuel Phippin Wreford, who operated a mercantile businessin the Dexter Avenue building now known as the Hub Building, and was constructed to accommodate eight members of his family inabove ground vaults. However, his is the only burial which evertook place there. He died in 1866 at the age of 47, andwas buried in a casket made of cast iron in the shape of a canoe.Locatedon Lot 3, Square, 33, in the second Plat.

The Age (Melbourne, Vic. : 1854 - 1954) Thu 14 Feb 1861, Page 1, Family Notices, Missing Friends If Richard Wreford, otherwise Matthew Hares, who sailed from England in the ship Atlas, in 1833, and was living at or near Hobart Town in December, 1846, will write to the undersigned, he will hear of something to his advantage. Mrs Rebecca Wreford died in 1858. Any person forwarding information respecting the said Richard Wreford, otherwise Matthew Hares, will confer a favor upon his relatives, James Grace and Son, Shannon Court, Bristol, England.
