Old Bailey: WILLIAM MAYBIN, Theft > pocketpicking, 8th April 1839. WILLIAM MAYBIN was indicted for stealing, on the 9th of April, 1 purse, value 2d.; 1 half-crown, 2 shillings, 4 pence, and 6 halfpence; the goods and monies of John Day, from the person of, Hannah Day. HANNAH DAY. GUILTY. Aged 18.—Recommended to mercy. — Confined One Month; the last Week Solitary. WILLIAM MAYBIN, Theft > pocketpicking, 17th June 1839. Offence: Theft > pocketpicking Verdict: Guilty > no_subcategory Punishment: Transportation WILLIAM MAYBIN was indicted for stealing, on the 20th of May, 1 handkerchief, value 4s., the goods of a man unknown, from his person. Prisoner. It was quite dark—I was walking along—Kemp came and said, "Where did you get this handkerchief?"—I said, "It was thrown on my shoulder." GEORGE KEMP. It was clenched in his hand—and it was no sooner out of the man's pocket than I took him. GUILTY*. Aged 18.— Transported for Ten Years. William was 20 years old on arrival and was born at Whitechapel, London. He was 5'2" tall, brown hair, hazel eyes, double crucifix on right arm, single. Occupation: Box Maker. 28/11/1845: TOL 3/5/1847: Married Rebecca Loveday 29, at Hobart - he was 28 and listed as a servant. 2 children listed. 25/6/1849: Free Certificate.




Occupation when convicted 'Packing Case Worker' and in Tasmania 'Box Maker'. He married Rebecca Loveday at Hobart on 3 May 1847, who was also a convict and arrived on the 'Tasmania'. She was born in 1818 and convicted at Maidstone, Kent to 10 years transportation.
