James McCandles was transported on the 'Minerva', departing 22/12/1817, arriving Van Diemens Land 07/06/1818. He was convicted of Burglary and robbing of provisions at Derry Aug 1817 - Life sentence. Convict no. 44321 VDL. He received his Ticket of Leave (date not known) 05/04/1824: Admits he supported Mr. Stirling's servant and suspected of harbouring O'Hara, a bushranger. To forfiet Ticket of Leave and confined to Prisoner Barracks. 16/10/1826: Absent from Muster and being at large on own lands. 24/10/1828: Steal quantity of grass belonging to Mr. Moodie - dis. 28/10/1828: Leaving his cart and horse in streets and no person to mind them. Fined 10/-. Note in Conduct Record Book - "Dead" but no date recorded.
