John McCarthy was 13 years old when convicted at the Old Bailey of stealing 1 handkerchief, value 1s 6d., the goods of Walter Carter, from his person. Although convicted in London, his native place was Cork County. 12/12/1832: Assigned to James Phillips, Paterson River. 27/12/1832: Assigned to T Saunders, Prospect September 1833: Sentenced to 50 lashes for selling his bedding and insolence. Skin slightly lacerated. Magistrate, S Wright. 29/5/1839: COF
