Mary McCarthy was transported to the colonies as a convict. She came on the ship Burrell (2). Age 29. No education, Catholic, Single with one male child. Native place Co Cork. House servant /Cook. Offence: Stealing trinkets. She was tried at Middlesex Gaol, London on 1st Dec 1831 and sentenced to 7 years. She had no former convictions. Her height was 4 ft 11 in and her complexion was ruddy freckled, black hair and hazel eyes. Natural small red mark at the ball of her right thumb. In the 1837 register of convicts Peter Horan is shown as her master.
