Convict Notes

From my research notes: Mary McCreery was convicted of larceny in Dublin in January 1848. [Conduct record at Libraries Tasmania] She received a sentence of 7 years transportation to Van Diemens Land. She arrived in Tasmania 7 Oct 1848. She was 16 years old at that time. Her profession is listed as Nurse Girl. [Convict description list at Libraries Tasmania] On 21 Jan 1851 she received permission to marry Mathew Sutton. [Marriage Permissions at Libraries Tasmania] As Mary McCrewney she married Mathew Sutton on 11 Feb 1851 in Launceston Tasmania [Australia Marriages, 1810-1980", database, FamilySearch] She was freed of her transportation servitude on 10 January 1855. Mary and Mathew had 5 children. Her husband Mathew died in 1889, in Launceston. From 1891 to her own death in 1898 she was in and out of a Hobart pauper establishment (New Town Charitable Institute). It seems she died in there. She was buried in the pauper section of the Cornelian Bay Cemetery Hobart.
