NEWSPAPER report of his trial: From the Newcastle Journal, Saturday 02 August 1851, p5: “NEWCASTLE-UPON-TYNE ASSIZES… ALEX. McDONALD (17), PATRICK TIMMONS(12),and MARY ANN BRITTAIN (19), were charged with having, on the 21st of March last, feloniously assaulted and put in bodily fear and danger of his life one Wm. Lyth, and violently stolen from his person a purse containing a sovereign, sixteen shillings, and other monies, his property. The prosecutor was a sailor, and had been at Tynemouth Races, where he met the prisoner, and was in her company some time, when they were joined by other parties, and the felony charged was committed.
