Registers Court Martial. https://nla.gov.au/nla.obj-1606822136/view Private William McDonald, 17th Foot Regt, Tried at Templemore, 18 Feb 1828, Laid before Advocate General, 1 March 1828. charges, Desertion and making away with his necessaries, sentenced to Transportation as a Felon for 14 years & sent to New South Wales.

The Indentures state that William McDonald was 23 years of age. He could read and write; religion: Protestant, status single and a native of Glasgow. His occupation was a soldier and weaver. He was convicted of desertion on 18 February 1828 and sentenced to 14 years. He had two prior convictions. Physical attributes: Height 5feet 6 inches; complexion dark ruddy; hair black and eyes blue. Transport number: 191. He was assigned to Mr H McArthur, Parramatta. Government Gazette January 8 1834 states that William McDonald had escaped from No. 2 Stockade on 30 December 1833.
