Isabella M'Gilvray, or Rhind, accused of uttering a forged note of the Greenock Bank, on the 12th April, and of having a number of others in her possession, knowing them to be forged, pleaded Not Guilty, but after the examination of the first witness she retracted her plea, and pleaded Guilty. A number of witnesses were examined in exculpation, who all considered her an honest woman, before the commission of' the present crime. She had been deserted by her husband, and had two children support by her industry. The Jury found her Guilty, in terms of her own confession, but on account of her former good character, recommended her to the clemency of the Court. Sentence, seven years transportation. Aberdeen Press and Journal, 26 Sept 1821.
