Convict Notes
COUNTY OF MONAGHAN ASSIZES. Ann McGoolbrick, Kitty Cassidy, and Eliza Williamson, were indicted for robbing Thomas Campbell of £2, 10s. in bank notes, in Monaghan, on 25th of December last. Thomas Campbell, examined.— Was in Monaghan in Dec. last; it was Christmas-day; saw the prisoners; identifies them ; Ann McGoolbrick held witness and took out of his pocket one thirty shilling note and a pound note; the other prisoners were assisting McGoolbrick ; it was in the evening and took place in Glasslough street ; swears that he did not drop the money; swears that he had no connection with the prisoners ; was simple enough to go into the house when called, and was then laid hold of. George Maphett, Sergeant of Police, examined.—Deposed that on Christmas-day the prosecutor called at the Barrack and told witness that he had been robbed ; saw Williamson, the prisoner, running through a garden; called her back and went into the house along with her to search her; it was a house of ill fame; got the money in possession of Williamson - she said the prosecutor had dropped the money; the prosecutor denied that he had dropped it ; produces the notes; prosecutor said they were his at the moment witness found the money on Williamson. Guilty—sentence of death recorded, to be transported for life. Newry Telegraph, 23 March 1837.

The convict indentures state that Anne McGolrick was 25 years old. She could neither read and write; religion Roman Catholic; status single and a native of County Monaghan. She was a laundress. Anne was convicted of house robbery at Monaghan on 20 March 1837 and sentenced to life. She had one prior conviction and served 5 months. Physical attributes: Height 5 feet 2 1/2 inches; complexion ruddy and freckled; hair dark brown and eyes brown. Transport number 60. Prisoner number 60-38.
