Michael (Free by Servitude after 1813) & Elizabeth (Somerville)'s children are:- 1.Mary Ann (McGrath/Megrath) was born in 1812 & baptised St Johns Parramatta in 1815 age3. 2.Margaret (McGrath/Megrath) was born in 1813 & baptised St Johns Parramatta in 1815 age2. 3.Thomas James (McGrath/Megrath) was born in 1815 & baptised that year at St Johns Parramatta with his siblings. He died in 1882 age66. 4.Ann (McGrath) was born about 1817 & baptised about 1819 at St Phillips Sydney. She died in 1904 age86?. 5.Michael (McGrath) was born in 1818 & baptised in 1819 at St Phillips Sydney. She died in 1887 age68. Michael (McGrath) also appears to have had another child with Ann (???). In 1826 Elizabeth put John, Ann & Michael (McGrath) into Cabramatta Orphan school.

Sainty & Johnson; 1828 Census of New South Wales: [Ref M0698 - page 250] McGrath, Michael (no age given), Boyd, Life, at Port Macquarie. No sign of Elizabeth in the census although two of the sons, Michael 9 and John 7 are recorded at the Cabramatta, male orphanage.




Michael McGrath was 36 years old and his native place was Waterford. 19/5/1812: Married Elizabeth Sommerville (1796-1868) the twin of Phillis and the daughters of convict, James Sommerville (Surprise 1794) and his wife Ann. They married in a double ceremony when both girls were 16. Phillis married James Dorsey/Darcey. Elizabeth and Michael had about 7 children (reports differ from 5-7). Elizabeth later co-habitated with John Frazer then James Ward. 5/8/1820: Syd. Gaz: Michael in the company of Thomas Ward alias Thomas Ford, was transported for life for the burglary of the dwelling house of Mrs Ann Robinson, on the Parramatta Road and stealing sundry property. Phillis Darcey (his sister-in-law) was indicted for receiving the same, but was acquitted. Colonial Secretary Papers: MCGRATH, Michael.
