County Court. Thomas Magrath, for stealing purse containing 7s from Michael Harley at the fair of Cappoquin. Harley, sworn—Met prisoner on the road, witness felt something rub up against his side; felt his pocket and missed his purse; seized the prisoner; did not find the purse on him; the purse was found short distance from him by a woman, and given to him. The prisoner, when called on for his defence, put some extremely pertinent questions to the witnesses, and evinced presence of mind not usual on such occasions. He was found Guilty, and sentenced to 7 years transportation. Waterford Mail, 8 Aug 1827.
