John McGregor and Catherine McGregor, his wife, were charged with stealing a pocket-book, containing 7£. in bank notes, from Redmond M'Cosker, at Ballydoolagh, the ?th January last. Redmond M'Cosker examined. l live in Ballydoolagh; The prisoner, John M'Gregor, was weaving with me; he left service? l missed my pocketbook wherein I had 7£; l caught the prisoner in Warrenpoint, and sent to Newry by Chief Constable Johnston. The prosecutor stated he knew the pocket-book well—it was in it all his money was—a 3£ bank post bill and four single pound notes. The Judge directed the Jury to acquit Catharine M‘Gregor, the wife, as the law presumes her to act her husband. The Jury found always in subjection to John M‘Gregor guilty. —To be transported for seven years, The convict’s wife burst into tears and exclaimed she would stick to him even in banishment. Enniskillen Chronicle, 16 March 1826.
