Janet McKay (Thomson) was convicted at Glasgow 1849 for theft. Previous convictions. 7yr sentence. Transported to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) per the 'Baretto Junior' arriving 25 July 1850. Aged 28yrs; housemaid; single; Protestant. Native Place - Glasgow, Scotland. Assignments of work service in Colony. Delivered of a female child, named Janet 21 April 1852, at the Female House of Correction, Cascades, Hobart. The child Janet was admitted to St. Johns Orphanage, New Town on 20 June 1854 however died, of fever, on 7 Aug 1855. Buried at St. Johns Cemetery, New Town.(ref. SWD 6). 25 July 1854: Ticket of Leave granted. 1855: Ticket of Leave revoked following disorderly conduct. Time spent at the Female House of Corrections, Cascades. 1856: Ticket of Leave restored. 1856: Ticket of Leave revoked. 10 Nov 1856: Certificate of Freedom
