Mary was executed for the murder of her infant child.She had been sent to work for Mr.C.R.Nairne where she fell pregnant so he sent her back to the Cascades Womens Factory where she gave birth to the baby and its body was later found.
Mary McLauchlan is the subject of a chapter in my book Human Remains: Episodes in Human Dissection (Melbourne University Press, Melbourne, 2005). It focuses on her life in the colony of Van Diemen's Land, where she was executed in 1830.
