Convict Notes


1831, 27 December: William McLeod was convicted in the High Court, Glasgow, "for the crime of theft, habit and repute at Burnet Barns, Gallowgate, Glasgow" (see National Records of Scotland, Reference JC26/1831/453). In VDL: 1832: On arrival in VDL, he was 19 years old and single, a groom and carter by trade. He was 5'7¾" tall with a dark complexion, dark brown hair and hazel eyes. His Conduct Record has several entries relating to punishments for assaults and drunkenness. 1843, 2 June: He was granted a Ticket of Leave. 1846: William McLeod was listed as "Free by servitude" (see https://stors.tas.gov.au/CON34-1-3$init=CON34-1-3P478).
