Her brother-in-law John Doherty, who was tried with her, arrived per Calcutta in 1837.

Donegal assizes.  John Doherty, Ellen Doherty, Neal O'Loughlin, and Sally O’Loughlin, were indicted for feloniously  stealing blankets, &c. on the 27th of January, from …. Loagbloa, Neal Doherty, and ….. Loughlin, sister-in-law of John Doherty. had stolen the articles specified, which were found in the house of the  house of the said John Doherty. John Doherty and Neal O’ Laughlen were again arraigned on a second charge, for stealing from the kiln of John Kennedy, eight stone of oats, the property of Robert Nelson, on the 8th March last. John Doherty guilty, Neal O’ Loughlin not Sentence. Sally Laughlin and John Doherty to be transported for 7 years. The Chief Justice said that  the system of robbery practised by  prisoners was only to be ….... The wife of John Doherty confessed her guilt and begged to be allowed to accompany her husband.  Ballyshannon Herald, 31 March 1837.
