Patrick M'Mahon and Edward Rogers, for a robbery on Chapel?od road ; the prosecutor, Chas. ?, stated, that going along the road upon a Saturday evening, after getting his week’s wages, seven shillings and sixpence, which he earned by digging potatoes, he observed two men standing with their backs against the wall; he walked smart in order to avoid them, when one (whom he identified to be the prisoner M‘Mahon) asked him if he was hungry ; witness said he was not, and proceeded at a quick pace ; the prisoner, M‘Mahon, followed and stopped him, saying, look what I have here, Witness looked up and saw pistol under prisoner’s coat; the prisoner, M‘Mahon, desired witness to with him into a public house, off the road ; the prisoner, M‘Mahon, called for bread and beer; the other prisoner, Rogers, also went into the public house. The prisoner, M‘Mahon, in the house demanded and took from him a tenpenny piece, at the same time presenting a pistol. The Jury convicted both the prisoners, but the Court observed, that Rogers would not only be recommended to mercy, but obtain a general pardon; Saunders News-Letter, 11 Nov 1818. ---------------------------------------------------- https://stors.tas.gov.au/CON31-1-29$init=CON31-1-29P54 Tasmanian Conduct Record.
