Shopbreaking — As Mr. Nadin, attended by the four Beadles, were returning to the returning to the Police-office, Manchester, after a patrol, on Friday morning the ?th inst. about 3 o'clock, he perceived a light through a hole in the door of the silk and woollen- draper shop belonging to Messrs Royle, on the corner of Old Millgate. On examination the shop was found to have been entered by persons, by means of forcing the shutter of the door and breaking the sash frame, and after entering they had put up the shutter to prevent detection. Mr. Nadin immediately forced it down, and the men in the inside assailed him and the Beadles with all their power, to prevent their entering, and it was not till he had fired upon them that they would give in. Two of the Beadles then got through the aperture of the door, and opening it in the inside, Mr. Nadin secured the thieves within, (three in number), took them to the New Bayley, where they underwent an examination with W. D. Evans, Esq. who has committed them all for trial at the ensuing Sessions Their names are Thomas Wibberley, Daniel M'Makin, and Joseph Green. Lancaster Gazette, 24 Feb 1816. Thomas Wibberley was also transported on the same ship.
