The following report appeared about James McNally's crime. Freemans Journal 1763-1924, Tuesday, July 30, 1793; Page: 2 "TRIM ASSIZES The above-mentioned assizes opened on Saturday last, the 27th inst, at which the following persons were tried before that upright judge, Lord Carleton: Nicholas Cregan and James McNally, found guilty of cow-stealing, but being recommended by the Grand Jury, were sentenced to transportation." Nicholas Cregan arrived on Marquis Cornwallis with McNally. The convicts from County Meath had been omitted from inclusion on the ship's indents. Therefore the only information about their sentences came from them! The following was recorded on the ship's indent about 1800: "Has declared and adduced proof that he came out in Marquis Cornwallis and was convicted as recorded so has been granted Ticket of Leave while enquiries made."
