John McPhillips, per Cadet, F.S., tried at Hobart, on 23 Sept 1871, for idle & disorderly, received 3 months, native place is Monaghan, age 43 yrs, 5 feet 5 inches high, black hair, is round shouldered. Ship Surgeon's Report: bad Aged 18yrs; single man; 5'4"; Roman Catholic; labourer; grey eyes; fresh complexion, freckled; dk brown hair; Native Place - Co. Monaghan. Father: John Mother: Mary Van Diemens Land: Station Gang: Impression Bay, 15mths. Emerged from Gang 30/11/1845. Numerous reports of misconduct - absence, idle, disobedience, abscond etc. Punishments of imprisonment, hard labour, solitary. 03/04/1849: Transportation extended 18mths. 1849: Recommended to be sent to Norfolk Island. For offences committed at Norfolk Island - see other papers. Returned to Hobart by 1861. 1866 & 1868: Port Arthur penal settlement and House of Corrections Hobart. 30/08/1868: Freedom
