The convict indentures state that Catherine McSpaddin was 30 years old. She could read and write; religion Presbyterian status widow with one son and a native of County Down. She was a plain cook and a laundry maid. Catherine was convicted of stealing calico at Antrim on 18 October 1837 and sentenced to 7 years. She had one prior conviction and served 14 days. Physical attributes: Height 5 feet 6 1/4 inches; complexion ruddy and freckled; hair brown and eyes hazel. Transport number 108. Prisoner number 107-38. Received her Certificate of Freedom in 1845 (number 45/1475). Comment on Certificate states wife of Henry Shewell per Susan. Application to marry Mr Henry Shewell per Susan, aged 25 granted on 9 August 1845. Catherine was 25 years old. Both of them had been sentenced to 7 years.
