DEATH: John MECOY [listed as John McKAY], convict, per KS Forbes died at the Launceston Hospital on 6 November 1835. No cause of death was listed (see https://stors.tas.gov.au/RGD34-1-1p180j2k).

On arrival in VDL, he was 25, and a widower with three children. 1832: Only one entry appears on his VDL Conduct Record - "found at the ship launch during divine service" for which the punishment was 6 days on the tread wheel (see stors.tas.gov.au).

CRIME: Riotously destroying a house - convicted along with 11 others of this offence. All were sentenced to transportation for life. All were admitted to the prison hulk Justitia at Woolwich on 25 January 1832. He was sent on 10 February for transportation. John MECAY was 25, born 1807, according to the hulk record (see UK, Prison Hulk Registers and Letter Books, 1802-1849).
