1/8/1835 Staffordshire Advertiser Staffordshire, England: STAFFORDSHIRE ADJOURNED SESSIONS WHOLESALE IRON STEALERS. Daniel Lunn and Joseph Meeke were indicted for stealing 1 ton, 1 cwt., 2 qrs. of cast iron, the property of John Brawn, at Rushall. *This trial was lengthy.....** A former conviction of felony being included in the charge against Lunn. Mr. Bruttonl, Gobernor of the County Prison, proved that he was the same Jos. Lunn, who was convicted of felony at the Summer Assizes in 1827. On the prisoners being asked, what they had to say in their defence, Lunn observed that he was merely employed by Meeke to assist in conveying the Iron. Meeke said that Lunn borrowed his horse and cart ; and he would not lend them without going with him. Jno. Ellis and two or three other persons gave Meeke a good character. The Jury found both the prisoners guilty ; but recommended Meeke to mercy on account of his former good character. Transported for 7 years. Daniel Lunn arrived in NSW per 'Lady Kennaway' 1836. Joseph Meeke was 29 years old on arrival. Native Place: Staffordshire. Occupation: In-door servant/coachman. Joseph was literate, protestant, married with 3 male children, 5'8" tall, dark ruddy complexion, dark brown mixed with grey hair, hazel eyes, scar on centre of forehead, hairy mole above left breast, small scar on nose. 27/7/1842: COF
