Edward MEMORY. Born: 14 May 1804, St George the Martyr, Southwark, London, Surrey, England. Baptised: 01 Sep 1805, St George the Martyr, Southwark, London, Surrey, England. Along with his younger brother, John MEMORY (born 13 Aug 1805). Parents: Henry and Mary MEMORY. No further details known. John MEMORY (1805-1888) is my 3xgrt grandfather. Edward MEMORY 1804-?) is therefore my 4xgrt uncle. I would appreciate ANY contact in reference to this family.

Edward MEMORY was convicted at the CCC, London on 21 Oct 1839 for uttering a forged shilling, at a Public House in York St. Westminster, London. Previous similar offence in 1836 - prison sentence. Noted on Convict record that he had also been convicted in 1823 and had received a transportation sentence - served 6 yrs & 10mths in Bermuda. Hulk Report: "bad" (does not state name of ship) Transported, for this offence, to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) per the ship 'Tortoise' arriving Hobart Town 19 Feb 1842. Ship Surgeon's Report: "orderly". Married man, wife Elizabeth but states he was a widower. 1 child recorded in Convict Indent record. Age: 34yrs in 1842 upon arrival in VDL. CCC record however has him as 26yrs in 1839. Trade - a Groom. Protestant. Not literate. Height: 5'-1/4" Fresh complexion; brown hair; grey eyes. Tatoos: 2 wreaths, "Eliza Memory". Native place of birth: Oundle, England. Mother: Mary (or Margaret) Wife: Elizabeth (ref. Convict Indent record) VDL: 2 yr Probation Period. Impression Bay & Swan Port. No notations of any misconduct. Stations included Perth (Tasmania), Lovely Banks (just north of Hobart), Spring Hill & Jerusalem (Tasmania). Sick in hospital 1843. Ticket of Leave granted 22 Aug 1845. Certificate of Freedom 22 Oct 1846.
