Mary Ann Meredith was listed as 23 years old on arrival. Place of Birth: Pensford near Bristol. Mary Ann could read, was single, 5'0¼" tall, fair complexion, light brown hair, grey eyes. 26/3/1850: TOL 3/6/1851: Recommended for a CP 16/11/1852: CP approved.
Mary Ann was born to George & Mary (nee Colby)in 1823 at Bristol Somerset, England. Her first conviction was for stealing cheese on 6th Aug 1842. She was sentenced to 6 months. Her next conviction was 31st March where she was tried for stealing 2 pairs of eardrops (earings). She was sentenced to transportation for 7 Years. She was transported aboard "The Elizabeth & Henry" leaving England 15th Sep 1846 and arriving in Van Dieman's Land 4th Jan 1847. She married prisoner William Thomas Bunting in Hobart on 14th Nov 1848. Children born to Mary Ann & William- William George born Hobart 1849 and died Hobart 1850. Martha born and dies in Hobart 1851. Caroline born 1852 in Hobart and died 1872 in Ballarat, Vic. George born 1854 in Green Ponds and died 1889 in Colac, Vic. Ann born 1857 in Ballarat, Vic and died 1925 in Williamstown, Vic. Elizabeth born 1860 in Ballarat, Vic and died 1940 in Ballarat, Vic. William born 1862 in Ballarat, Vic and died 1915 in Broken Hill, New South Wales. Mary born 1864 in Ballarat, Vic and died 1922 in Ballarat. Maria born 1868 at Ross Creek, Vic and died Aug 1869 in Ballarat. Mary Ann's husband George passed away 28th July 1868 in Ballarat. Mary Ann married Edward Williams in 1873 and sadly he passed away the following year. Mary Ann passed away July 1900 in Ballarat, aged 77 years and is buried with her first husband in Ballarat Old Cemetery.
