27/1/1816 Lancaster Gazette Lancashire, England: QUARTER SESSIONS Benjamin Metcalf, for stealing calico from Mrssrs. Welch, at Manchester. Colonial Secretary Papers: METCALF, Benjamin. Per "Shipley", 1817 1817 May 2: On list of convicts disembarked from the "Shipley" and forwarded to Parramatta for distribution (Reel 6005; 4/3496 p.129) 18/10/1817: Sydney Gazette: Benjamin Metcalf, for robbing the dwelling-house of Benjamin Mucklow, at Parramatta, on the 10th of September, was found guilty, and sentenced to three years hard labour at Newcastle. 1817 Nov 20: On list of prisoners to be sent to Newcastle per "Elizabeth Henrietta" (Reel 6005; 4/3497 p.145) 1818 Oct; 1821 Jan; 1823 Jan: On monthly returns of prisoners punished at Newcastle (Reel 6023; 4/1718 pp.69, 121, 161) 29/10/1818: Punished for running - first time. Oct 1824: COF 8/9/1825 Sydney Gazette: Benjamin Metcalf, free, apprehended at the hour of 3 this morning, in an alley on the Rocks, in company with another man, who escaped. It appeared from the testimony of the constable who secured Metcalf, how that as soon as he saw the constable approach him, he threw away from him an iron crow bar (an implement of house-breaking), which was picked up on the spot immedititely after the prisoner had been taken iinto custody. Sentenced to the gaol, as the house of correction to labour for one mouth, as a rogue and vagabond. 10/11/1825 Sydney Gazette: Thursday, Nov. 3.—William Parsons and Benjamin Metcalf, free, charged with having knocked down a man named Joseph Holland (with whom they had been drinking in a public-house and whence they all came out together), and feloniously taking from his person a gold ring and two handkerchiefs, were fully committed for trial. 1828 Census: Mt. Pleasant Paterson Plains - Free By Servitude, Aged 30, Employed by Jacob Bowden.
