Michael Farrell was transported on the Surrey Or Surry, departing 14th Jul 1816 and arriving 20th Dec 1816 with 150 passengers.

Built at Harwich in 1811 a square-rigged transport ship of 443 tons and copper lined she had two decks with a height between decks of 5 ft. 8 ins. In 1818, she had a major refit increasing the decks (and convict carrying capacity) to three. She was owned by the London firm of F. & C.F. Mangles.

Family connections for Michael (Farrell) are: FARRELL Michael (Farrell) was born about 1797 possibly in Wexford co. Ireland & became a ropemaker. He was tried w/2others for stealing printing plates for counterfeiting at Dublin city Ireland, sentenced to 7years & arrived in NSW as a convict on 20 12 1816 after a voyage of 5months on SURREY. He had a first relationship with Elizabeth (Reynolds) herecond (2of4) relationship).>>> [Some details taken from this Website] Elizabeth (Reynolds) was born on 6 7 1801 & baptised on 31 8 1806 age5 at St Phillips CofE Sydney. She is recorded in 1805 with her parents at Richmond. She apparantly had a first relationship (1of4) at age16 with Edward (Ellison). She had a third (3of4) relationship with John (Gow-Gollidge age16) & produced a child. She is recorded in 1825 with her father at Richmond. She married fourthly with permission Thomas Eacott (Edwards his first marriage) emancipist crier of Supreme Court on 9 9 1826 at St James CofE Sydney. She died on 17 9 1827 age26 at Phillip St Sydney mother of perhaps 5children & buried, as (Edwards) at St James CofE Sydney. Michael (Farrell) & Elizabeth (Reynolds) produced 1child: 1.Ann Elizabeth (Farrell) was born on 25 8 1818 & baptised on 20 9 1818 at St Phillips CofE Sydney. .. >>>Michael (Farrell) was Free by Servitude living in Sydney when he married secondly with permission Elizabeth (Barry her third relationship)) on 3 10 1825 at St Marys RC Sydney. He became a licensed victualler at The Whale Fishery The Rocks from 1831-3 The Welsh Harp George St Sydney from 1838-46 The Farmers Arms from 1846-58 & wine & spirit merchant at Haymarket from 1858-70. He died in 1882 age70 father of at least 3children. Elizabeth (Barry) was born about 1801. She was tried for stealing money at Dublin city Ireland on 30 8 1822, sentenced to 7years & arrived in NSW as a convict on 25 6 1823 after a voyage of 5months on WOODMAN-during the voyage she was severely ill from 17 1-22 1 1823 & 8 2-9 2 1823 (is it possible neither she nor the surgeon knew she had a pregnancy which produced a child later on the voyage-the father was apparantly a Patrick (Byrne).) Michael Farrell was convicted at Dublin City and given a 7yr transportation sentence. Sent to New South Wales, Australia on the ship 'Surrey' 1816. Aged 19yrs; trade - ropemaker Native place - Wexford Co.
