Convict Notes
City Quarter Sessions. Michael and John Fitzgerald were indicted for stealing a shovel, fork, knife, oven, and window shutter, the goods of Michael Brennan. Michael Brennan sworn—On the 18th of March last the articles were taken from him and he saw them on .the 26th in the possession of Sergeant Riedy. Sergeant Reidy sworn—Received information which led him to search the prisoners house, where he found the articles identified by the former witness; on asking the prisoner where he got them he said from a woman next door ; witness brought in the woman and she said in the prisoners presence that she knew that she knew nothing about them. The prisoners in their defence told a long story about finding them in their house when they came in to breakfast in the morning, but they could not account for how they came there. They said Sergeant Riedy frequently used to take a walk down to them looking for deserters and the like of that. The Jury found the prisoners guilty. Limerick Chronicle, 9 May 1840.
