Limerick Assizes. Michael and Winifred Hayes, for stealing a pig, the joint property of Denis and Patrick Ryan, guilty; to be transported for seven years. Limerick Chronicle, 19 March 1828. (Winifred Hayes was transported per City of Edinburgh, (1828)
The Convict Indentures state that Michael Hayes was 26 years old. He could neither read or write; religion Catholic; status single and a native of Limerick. He was a farm labourer. He was convicted on 15 March 1828 at Limerick of pig stealing and sentenced to 7 years. He had no prior convictions. Physical attributes: Height 5 feet 7 inches; complexion ruddy and freckled; hair brown and eyes grey. Transport number 161. Assigned to Mr A. P. Onslow, Manning River. Received ticket of leave in 33 (number 33/856). Received Certificate of Freedom in 1840 (numbe 40/912).
