Convict Notes
Michael was a pastry cook, His descendants via his son Charles are erroneously identified as McCormack. Several children are recorded under the Victorian early church records. He left a wife and daughter behind in Devonport (Stonehouse) and married after dispensation, to Mary Corbett who was subsequently imprisoned in Tasmania. No record of marriage can be found for his relationship with Margaret/Mary Tanner.
Michael came to Victoria in the mid 1840s with his common law wife (and ex convict) Margaret/Mary Tanner. He had several children, notably Mary Ann (b1845 Hobart) and Charles that went onto have descendants. Michael died near Creswick and had a post mortem examination. He should not be confused with a Michael McCormick d1899 and buried with a Minogue in the Ballarat cemetery.
