Maria was convicted at the Honduras S.C 8 Sept 1825 for murder. She was a servant (slave), last living with Mary White (her Mistufo). She stated she was beaten by William Muir, a builder, and he had a knife which in a scuffle went into him and killed him. Life sentence. Transported to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) per the 'Borneo' 1828. Single girl; aged 18yrs;4'11"; black coloured complexion; servant of all work. A native of Honduras. She stated she had her parents, sisters and brothers. Her Record states "Bryan Middleton, a Mahoney cutter", but does not state her relationship to him, however the VDL records have her name recorded under "Middleton". Work assignments in the Colony. 30 Sept 1830: Application for Permission to Marry - to John Murray. Approved. 22 Nov 1830: Marriage to John Murray, Church, Hobart. John, free, bachelor. Maria, convict, spinster. (ref. 36/1/1 no. 1457). 26 April 1832: charged with stealing a blanket and other articles. Committed for trial - acquitted. 28 Jan 1839: Conditional Pardon granted, no. 1948.
