Robert Miers was baptised on 4.5.1807 at All Hallows, Barking by the Tower, London, son of Agnes Maugham (bapt.20.2.1774, St. Lawrence, Appleby, Westmorland) and John Miers. John Miers was the Keeper of Holland's Coffee House, Thames St. London, he died in 1809. Agnes remarried Jonathan Nicholson (bapt.4.1.1789, Dufton, Westmorelan)on 11th August 1811 at St. Gile's, London. He took over the Coffee House which burnt down, with the Custom House, in 1814. Robert was a Draper, same occupation as his Step father's brothers, William and George Nicholson. He was tried at the Old Bailey for burning down his business and falsely making an insurance claim. He was found guilty.
