The 'Ocean' was an English merchant ship and whaler built in 1794 at South Shields, England. In 1803 she accompanied the ship 'Calcutta' to Australia, acting as a transport supply ship. When the settlers abondoned Port Phillip, Melbourne, Victoria the ship transferred convicts, settlers and marines to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania). In 1815, 1817 & 1823 the 'Ocean' transported convicts to New South Wales.

Suffolk Lent Assizes. — Simon Mills, for stealing 10 geese and 4 turkies, the property of Stephen Clarke, of Pettistree, to be transported for 7 years. — Bury and Norwich Post, 9 Apr 1817. ------------------------------------------------- Wednesday, the following convicts were removed from the County and Borough Gaols, in this town:—Daniel Spooner, Simon Mills, Moses Storkey. John Howes, Barnaby Gilson, and James Whitbread, be put on board the hulks at Gosport. Suffolk Chronicle, 17 May 1817.
