Francis MITCHELL was convicted at the CCC, London on 13 June 1842 for stealing from the person - a silk handkerchief. 12 yr transportation sentence. Transported to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) per the 'Moffatt' arriving 28 Nov 1842. Aged 21yrs; single man; 5'6"; bricklayer & plasterer's assistant. Nearly blind in right eye. Protestant. Can read. Native Place - Cork, Ireland. 4 Sisters - Mary, Nancy, Kitty & Jane (all at Bloomsbury) 1 Brother - Thomas Probation Period, in Colony, 2 and half years. Work assignments. 1847 - a Constable, in Hobart. 7 Nov 1848: Ticket of Leave approved. 15 Oct 1850: Conditional Pardon granted. 25 Jan 1854: Departed VDL for Melbourne, Victoria per ship 'Clarence'. Steerage passenger. (Ship to Colony - Moffatt). Free by Servitude. (ref. POL 220/1/3).
