Joseph Montgomery was transported on the Surrey Or Surry, departing 31st Dec 1813 and arriving 28th Jul 1814 with 204 passengers.

Built at Harwich in 1811 a square-rigged transport ship of 443 tons and copper lined she had two decks with a height between decks of 5 ft. 8 ins. In 1818, she had a major refit increasing the decks (and convict carrying capacity) to three. She was owned by the London firm of F. & C.F. Mangles.

Hulk Report HO 9/8 page 19. Captivity Hulk. Received Four prisoners from HMS Dido, 28 Sept 1813. Joseph Montgomery, age 28, Desertion, tried at Montreal, DNA, 21 Oct 1812 , Life, Per Surrey. Joseph was court-martialled on 21/10/1812 at Fort Chambly, near Montreal, in Canada. Joseph was in the 100th Regiment (Irish soldiers) which saw action in the 1812 war between the United States and the British possessions to the north. The regiment had been sent to Canada in 1804 and arrived in October 1805.
