One of the Watches—a Gold Lever, plain Dial Plate, Capped and Jewelled, with P. P. in Cypher, the Plate where the Maker's Name is engraved Gold Seal, W.D., Cypher. Another double-cased Silver Hunting-Watch, with a Chrystal, Capped. Maker's name, L'Estrange, Damestreet Dublin, with J. 11. 0., in Cypher, the front of the outside Case—a Seal appendant red Cornelian —Crest, lion rampant, Cypher, J.H.O. A double-cased Silver Hunting Watch. Maker's name, J. Johnstone, Liverpool No. 40018, capped, with second hand, for Medical use, &c. &c. A plain Silver Watch, with a Landscape painted on the dial-plate, with a sea view and a ship approaching the shore, made in Liverpool. The other Watches cannot accurately described, but could be identified. A gold seal to one them, with June engraved. The said Adam Moore, about 5 feet 11 inches high very large black whiskers, very dark hair, long aquiline nose, small bad teeth, the two front teeth of the upper jaw very far asunder, and very remarkable thin visage, though manly; rather genteel address. He wore a very dark bottle green surtout, with velvet collar, a striped waistcoat, and blue trowers —his whole appearance, shabby genteel. represented himself as native of the County of Cork, from near Kanturk, accent English and Munster. Dublin Evening Mail, 6 Feb 1824. MARYBOROUGH, COUNTY ASSIZES. Adam Moore, (a sleek, pious-looking, travelling watch mender, who preached himself into the good graces of the faithful at Rathdowney, in the month of January last, and succeeded in obtaining about 20 watches to set going, and with which he immediately decamped, in order that they might tell him the hour at which he at which he was not to return) was indicted for stealing a watch, the property of John Healy. It appeared in evidence that the Prisoner left Rathdowney a day or two after he got possession of several watches, under pretence of repairing them ; that he was advertised in the Hue and Cry, and apprehended in the North of Ireland. The watch, the subject of the prosecution, was found pledged at a Pawnbroker’s, in Capel-street, and the property proved by the owner. Mr. Walker contended that there was not sufficient evidence of the stealing, to to the Jury inasmuch as the prisoner had returned the watch, when repaired; that the prosecutor voluntarily gave it to him a second time, and that, though it was pawned, the prosecutor got it on applying for it.—His Lordship cited the case of Major Semple, tried in London, in December, in 1785. His Lordship thought it was the watchmaker's intention to rob the watches when he got them and would therefore let the intention go to the Jury. It could not the prisoner's life !—Mr. C : The prisoner's life and liberty are the same.—The Jury found the prisoner Guilty. Imperial Weekly Gazette, 21 Aug 1824

On list of convicts transported to Port Macquarie per "Mermaid" Adam Moore, Tried Queens Co. 5 Aug 1824, 7 years. Clerk, per Asia (4), Colonial Conviction, Sydney Gen Sessions, 29 July 1825, 3 years. Sent down 10 Aug 1825 per Mermaid. Returned 29 Dec 1828. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Police Report. JULY 29. - Adam Moore, prisoner of the crown, and as it appeared a dealer in watches and other articles to a considerable extent, was brought up on various charges of having received watches and breast-pins to repair from several credulous individuals, and with having left them in pledge at different places for sums of money, answerable to his own immediate occasions. Some of the watches and a breast-pin were produced, and ordered to be taken care of in the office until further discoveries should take place, and in the mean time the prisoner was remanded. JULY 30. - In consequence of the prompt and effective measure taken by direction of the Superintendent of Police, two more watches which had been left in pledge by Adam Moore (the last-mentioned prisoner) with two publicans at Parramatta, made their appearance this morning, and being identified by the parties as their several property, and the same that had been delivered to the prisoner to repair, they were restored, together with the others taken in charge the preceding day, to the regular owners, and the prisoner sentenced to a penal settlement for the period of three years.
