Convict Notes
Walsingham Sessions were held on Friday last, … There were prisoners for trial; amongst whom were Wm. Funnell, aged 19, was convicted of breaking into the dwelling-house of Edw. Sturges, of Cley, and stealing two sovereigns and a half sovereign ; and was sentenced to 10 years' transportation. Joseph Shepherd was found guilty of stealing quantity of barley in the straw, the property of Thos. Lake, of Walsingham. The prisoner had been transported, and a short time since had been tried with his father for a similar offence, when the father was transported. The Court now sentenced him to 15 years' transportation. Joshua Moore was found guilty of stealing a coat, waistcoat, and a pair of small clothes, the property of Geo. Palmer, groom in the service of Mr. Denny, of Egmere.— There was a former conviction against him, and he was sentenced to 10 years' transportation. Norfolk Chronicle, 4 April 1840. Tuesday morning last the three under-mentioned convicts were removed from Walslngham Prison and put board the Warrior Hulk at Woolwich,; Joseph Sheppard for fifteen years, William Funnell and Joshua Moore for ten years each.
