Convict Notes

The Commission Owen Morgan, John Griffin, and Michael Carroll, were indicted for feloniously robbing, on the king’s highway, Thomas Tully, of twopence. It appeared, that on the 22d of November, the prosecutor was proceeding home to Chapelizod, at 12 o'clock at night, when he was stopped by the prisoners near Island Bridge. He endeavoured to push on, but they held him, until they searched his pockets, and extracted therefrom twopence, all the money he had about him at the time. One of the gang during the search presented something at the prosecutor which he saw was not a pistol, but which looked like the handle of hammer. The fellow also took an umbrella from Tully. When Tully reached Chapelizod after this rencounter, he gave information of what had passed to the police stationed the village, and they immediately set out ln pursuit of the robbers, and took the prisoners into custody near the place where the robbery was committed. The evidence was conclusive against the prisoners, and the Jury, without hesitation, found them guilty. Saunders Newsletter, 10 Jan 1832.
