Alleged Robbery - John Kelly, Darby Ryan and Ellen Ryan his wife, appeared on warrant to answer a charge of robbery preferred against them by Margaret Moriarty. The complainant, an elderly specimen of “the finest p?try in the world" most unluckily could speak nothing but the native Irish and was therefore accommodated with an interpreter. The flood gates of her eloquence which had been closed from her inability to express her thoughts were however opened with tenfold violence on the unlucky head of the interpreter, from whose explanation we gathered the following facts. About three months ago the complainant had left three boxes of clothes at the house of a friend from whence the prisoner Kelly had removed and opened them, taking out what he thought proper. She admitted however that she owed Kelly some money; Kelly in his defence said that the boxes were seized under a warrant from the Commissioner of the Court of Requests as he had gained a judgment against the Complainant in that Court. The Complainant said she knew nothing about it. Mr. Windeyer was not surprised at that, from her small knowledge of the vulgar English Tongue she might have been there without knowing anything of what was going on. The prisoners were discharged.
