George MORRIS was convicted at Auckland, New Zealand, May 1846, for desertion from the Army - 99th Regiment. He had been in the Army for 5 yrs but absconded. Life Sentence. Transported to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) per the ship 'Castor' in 1846. His native place of birth was given as Halifax. Probation station was firstly Norfolk Island then transferred in 1850 to Van Diemen's Land itself.
