Tried at the Old Bailey, 17 Sept 1817. 1348. GEORGE MORRIS was indicted, for stealing, on the 27th of August , 18s. in monies numbered , the property of Sarah Coates. SARAH COATES . I am a haberdasher , and live in Shuldam-street . On the 27th of August, my door was shut-there is a bell over it - I went down stairs-the door opened - I came up and found the prisoner there, and missed 18s., out of my till, he said he had taken nothing, I told him he had taken the silver out of the till - He opened his hand and said "here is the money, now let me go, "and gave it to me. I gave him in charge. Prisoner's Defence. It is my own money. GUILTY . Aged 19. Transported for Seven Years .

Served his time as servant to explorer Hamilton Hume, married Caroline Louisa Kitt, children included James George Morris 1851-1925 who married Sarah Greenwood, children included Ruby Morris 1888-1942 my grandmother who deceased before I was born. She had married Elijah Thomas Stephen McIlwain Keam.

Wanted to come to Australia but couldn't afford the fare, deliberately stole 8 shillings from a haberdashery store but got around the corner felt guilty and took it back, store owner dobbed him in anyway and off to Australia he went. He married and had 10 children and now has over 2000 decentants
