Moses Rowlands was listed as 17 years old on arrival. Born: Hopeowen, Flintshire, Wales. Son of Thomas and Margaret Lewis. Occupation: Shoemaker's boy. Moses was 5'6" tall, light brown hair, light blue eyes, MB MR inside left arm, large scar back of right hand, single. 21/3/1829 The Hobart Town Courier: Moses Rowlands was convicted of stealing one pair of trousers, the property of John M'Caffety, and Matthew Grantfield, (sentenced to 7 years) acquitted on a charge of receiving the same. Alice Catherine Champion was born in Breage, Cornwall, in 1815 and died 1908. Children: 1840: Eliza Jane d 1840 1841: Moses d 17/7/1902, Kyneton, Victoria. 1843: Elizabeth Ann d 1930 1845: Isabella d 1919 1848: Harriet d 1927 1851: Jane Catherine d 1934 20/4/1839: Letter addressed to Moses Rowlands, Port Adelaide at Post Office, Launceston.
Moses Rowlands was originally sentenced to death, fortunately this was reduced. He spent 2 years on the prison ship the Justitia before being transported to Tasmania on the ship Sir Charles Forbes. After serving a total of 5 years, Moses was charged with stealing an officers clothing and trying to escape and received another 7 years imprisonment. Later married and produced children. Sadly Moses died in Pentridge Prison, Coburg Victoria on the 11/3/1864.
Convicted 1 April 1823. Originally sentenced to death. Discharged 16th November 1824 per "Charles Forbes" vessel . Moses Rowlands, one of 130 convicts transported on the Sir Charles Forbes, 23 November 1824 Moses married Alice Catherine Champion in 1835. Moses died in Pentridge Gaol, Victoria, Australia 1864
