Family connections for Simon (Moulds) are: MOULDS Simon (Mould/s) was born in 1776 at Enfield Middlesex. He was a labourer at Plaistowe Essex when he was tried w/1other for stealing various cattle & horses of Elizabeth (Hicks), John (Bonnett), John (Que), Joseph (Osborne), on various dates, at Chelmsford Lent Assizes Essex on 8 3 1797, sentenced to Life, & arrived in NSW as a convict on 18 5 1798 after a voyage of 8months on BARWELL; he was Protestant. He was Free by Servitude by 1805 & had a relationship with future wife Ann (Davis her fourth relationship). In 1806 he is recorded as working as government stock keeper at Parramatta. He was issued his Conditional Pardon on 31 1 1813. In 1814 he is recorded as a labourer at Parramatta. He married Ann (Davis/Davies) on 21 2 1820 at St Johns CofE Parramatta & was living on his own land at Toongabbee; he was granted 50acres in Bathurst district. In 1821 he was supplying meat to Government. On 10 12 1822 he was recorded as victualled from Parramatta Stores for 6months with his family. On 30 6 1823 he was farming 60acres at Castle Hill. In 1824 he was recorded producing wheat & maize at Bathurst. In 1828 he is recorded with some of his family farming 170acres at Seven Hills. He died on 17 6 1843 age67 & was buried at St Johns CofE Parramatta. [Some details taken from this Website Ann (Davis) was born about 1772 at St George Gloucestershire. She was tried for stealing a gown etc at Gloucester, sentenced to 7years, held at Gloucester Castle Gaol & arrived in NSW as a convict on 3 6 1790 after a voyage of 12months on Fleet ship LADY JULIANA-a ship with 228females who easily entertained the whole crew & also sailors at Teneriffe stopover; she was Protestant. She arrived on Norfolk Island on 7 8 1790. She had a first (1of4) relationship with Samuel (Richards) before 1792 (no marriage shown in Smees records) & produced 3children. She had a second relationship with (2of4) with Thomas (Fowles) before 1796 (no marriage shown in Smees records) & produced 1child. She had a third relationship (3of4) with Thomas (Williams) in about 1798 & produced 2children. She had been issued her Absolute Pardon by 1799. By 1803 she was almost blind & had been deteriorating since 1797. She was Free by Servitude by 1805. She left Norfolk Island on 25 12 1807, probably to Derwent Tasmania on HMS PORPOISE, arriving on 17 1 1808-not mentioned in my Refs. In 1810 she petitioned for promised 80acre land grant of husband Thomas (Williams) which did not succeed. On 10 12 1822 she was recorded as victualled from Parramatta Stores for 6months with her family. In 1828 she is recorded with some of her family at Seven Hills. He is recorded in 1828 as a settler at Castle Hill on 60acres; employing his brother in law Samuel (Woller) as labourer at Castle Hill. He married Rosetta (James age16) on 25 1 1830 at St Johns CofE Parramatta. He died on 31 10 1874 age69. ..Rosetta (James) was born on 9 7 1814 & baptised on 9 10 1814 at St Johns CofE Parramatta. She was recorded as on stores at Parramatta with her parents for 6months from 10 12 1822. She married Francis (Sherwood) emancipist on 22 4 1827 at St Johns CofE Parramatta & produced 11children. She is recorded with her family in 1828 at Seven Hills. She died on 5 2 1896 age87. ..Francis (Sherwood) was born about 1795. He was tried for assault & attempted robbery & murder of Eliz (Pirkins) & Mrs (Howes) at Northampton Assizes, sentenced to 7years & arrived in NSW as a convict on 30 1 1816 after a voyage of 5months on OCEAN. He was Free by Servitude by 1824. He is recorded in 1827 as labourer. He is recorded in 1828 with his family as labourer at Seven Hills. He is recorded in 1830 as labourer at Seven Hills. She was recorded as on stores at Parramatta with her parents for 6months from 10 12 1822. She married Samuel (Wool/ler) emancipist on 26 5 1828 at St Johns CofE Parramatta & produced perhaps 8children. She is recorded with her husband in 1828 at Castle Hill. She died on 13 1 1852 age40 & was buried at St Stephens cemetery with some of her family. ..Samuel (Wooller) was born about 1801 & became a labourer. He was tried w/1other for grand larceny/stealing a copper pot, on 4 2 1820, of George (Daniel) at probably Old Bailey on 17 2 1820, sentenced to 7years, held at Middlesex Gaol Delivery & arrived in NSW on 22 9 1820 after a voyage of 5months on AGAMEMNON; he was assigned to Mr (Cox). He was issued his Certificae of Freedom on 17 2 1827. In 1828 he is recorded with his wife & as a labourer employed by his brother in law Simon (Moulds) at Castle Hill. He was recorded in 1830 as farmer at Castle Hill. He died on 17 11 1873 age72 at 287 Elizabeth St South Sydney & was buried at St Stephens cemetery with some of his family. ..[Some details taken from this Website] .. 4.John (Moulds) was born on 29 3 1814 & baptised on 9 10 1814 at St Johns CofE Parramatta. He was recorded as on stores at Parramatta with his parents for 6months from 10 12 1822. In 1828 he is recorded with his parents at Seven Hills. He died on 19 6 1899 age85. Noted a John D/M (Mould/s) is recorded as born in 1809. DAVIS The veracity of information concerning Ann & Elizabeth (Davis) needs further consideration. The statements on this Website that Ann (Davis) married both Thomas (Fowles) & Simon (Moulds) cannot be relied on until consideration of the following: Elizabeth (Davis) is shown in Smees records as arriving in NSW as a convict in 1791 on NEPTUNE-the appropriate ship would be Fleet ship NEPTUNE which arrived on 26 6 1790-& on which an Elizabeth (Davis) does have an entry. She had a relationship with Thomas (Fowles convict Fleet ship ATLANTIC1791) & produce a child-Elizabeth born 1796. Elizabeth (Davis) is shown in Norfolk Island References as arriving in Australia on LADY JULIANA, which arrived in NSW on 3 6 1790-on which she does not have an entry-& later arrived on Norfolk Island on 7 8 1790. She had a relationship with Thomas (Fowles no ship) who arrived on Norfolk Island on 16 11 1796-they produced a child-Elizabeth born 1796. They are both shown as leaving Norfolk Island on on 25 12 1807-the appropriate ship being HMS PORPOISE, the passenger list for which shows him with an unnamed wife. The daughter is not shown as leaving Norfolk Island. The records found for Tasmania do not show any of them. & Elizabeth (Davis) is now also to be found to have married James/Joseph (Sticke/Staike/s/Stackes convict Fleet ship NEPTUNE 1790) in 1791. [Ref M3287] Moulds, Ann, 54, free by servitude, Lady Juliana, 1790, 7 years, Protestant. [Ref M3288] Moulds, John, 14, born in the colony. Simon (snr) held 170 acres of land of which 54 acres were cleared and 29 acres cultivated. He had 6 horses and 30 cattle. Simon (jnr) was nearby. [Ref M3287] Moulds, Simon, 23, BC, Settler, Castle Hill,. He held 60 acres 10 of which was cleared and cultivated with 1 horse and 7 cattle. The daughters were married and with their families. Susannah, married to Francis Sherwood (Convict, Ocean, 1816) [Ref S0734]. Charlotte, married to Samuel Wooler (Convict, Agamemnon, 1820) [Ref W2528].




Simon MOULDS was born in 1776 in Enfield, Middlesex, England. May 18, 1798 (Age 22) Simon was tried at Essex, Chelmsford Lent Assizes on the 8th March 1797 along with William Presnell. They were both labourers from the parish of Plaistow, County of Essex. Simon and Presnell were committed and charged on 13th September 1796 for stealing one cow calf and chattels of Elizabeth Hicks and Simon was also charged with stealing one heiffer to the value of seven pounds and chattels belonging to John Bonnett. Simon's punishment was transportation for the term of his natural life. 'on the eight day of February in the Thirty Seventh Year of the Reign of our Sovereign Lord George the Third, King of Great Britain, with force and arms at the parish aforesaid one Mare of the Price of Ten Pounds of the Goods and Chattels of John Que then and there being found feloniously did steal take and lead away against the peace of our said Lord and King his Crown and Dignity.' 'William Presnell...and Simon Moulds, late of the same, Labourer, on the sixteenth day of August, in the thirty sixth year of the reign of our Sovereign Lord George the Third King of Great Britain with force and arms at the parish aforesaid in the county aforesaid one cow of the price of...pounds and one heiffer the price of ... pounds... good and chattels of Joseph Osborne...' 'Committed 13 September 1796, by Thomas Barnard Esq. charged upon the oaths of John Hicks and others for feloniously stealing one cow calf to the value of thirty shillings the Goods and Chattels of Elizabeth Hicks - Simon charged upon the oath of John Bonnott and others for feloniously sealing one Heiffer of the value of Seven Pounds the Goods and Chattels of the said John Bonnott.' Sentenced to life. 1806 Census: Ann Davis (Lady Juliana)was living together with Simon by 1804. He was still under sentence and worked as a government stock keeper in the Parramatta district. Their son Simon was born there in 1805. In 1806 she was recorded as Simon's houskeeper with 2 male and 2 female children. Simon was recorded as a stock keeper. 4/7/1810 Parramatta: Simon owned sheep. He was included in a group of 38 people who were invited to the Commissary's office on 14 Jun 1810. If they 'make application at this office on Monday 16 Jul, inst, they will receive and order for such qualtities of cloth as they may be entitled to on account of wool delivered at the factory at Parramatta.' In 1812 Simon petitioned Lachlan Macquarie the Governor to consider his emancipation: 31/1/1813: CP 1814 Census: (Age 38) Parramatta, Greater Sydney, New South Wales, Australia He is shown as a labourer living free and independent of Government stores. 21/2/1820: Aged 44, married Ann Davis (Lady Juliana). Ann and Simon had been living together for about 16 years prior to their marriage. Simon's name recorded as 'Mould'. Simon petitioned Governor Macquarie on 12 May 1820 for a grant of land . He stated he was a free man with a wife and four children and residing on purchased land at Toongabee. Simon received 50 acres at what was then known as the district of Bathurst. The petition further stated that he was following agricultural pursuits and that he had 'thirteen head of horned cattle and sixty sheep'. Castle Hill, Greater Sydney, New South Wales, Australia 30/6/1823: Aged 47, Simon was granted 60 acres at Castle Hill by Governor Brisbane. This land is portion 104, Parish of South Colah, County of Cumberland. Referred to in the will of Simon the younger, that this land grant had been made to his father on 30 Jun 1823. Other land grants in the Dural/Galston area were also made to Simon. 1828 Census: (Age 52) Seven Hills, Greater Sydney, New South Wales, Australia: Simon is shown as a farmer at Seven Hills with 170 acres of land of which 54 acres were cleared and 29 acres cultivated. He had 6 horses and 30 cattle. 17/6/1843: Simon died and was buried at St John’s Cemetery, Parramatta. The inscription on the headstone reads: Sacred to the Memory of Simon Moulds who departed this life 17th of June, 1843, aged 67 yrs. Farewell dear wife dear / Children adieu I leave this / World and part from you / Hope in heaven to meet / Around when Christ shall / Make the trumpet sound / Also of Ann Moulds who died March 11, 1854 aged 80 yrs.
