Convict Notes




Jean Pierre's original family name was Meunier, the French version of Miller. He is recorded in the 'Canada, British Army and Canadian Militia Muster Rolls and Pay Lists, 1795-1850' as being a drummer and fifer in the de Meuron regiment. On 13 September 1813 he was court-martialed in Chambly, Quebec,for having been absent without leave for one week, from 27 August to 3 September, and sentenced to life imprisonment. Jean Pierre was eventually granted a conditional pardon, the condition being that he remain in the colony of New South Wales for the rest of his life. (The Sydney Monitor, 7 November 1835, p. 3).




On 12 January 1833 Jean Pierre Mounier (aged 40, sic) and Catherine Boyle (aged 50, per Frances & Eliza, sentence 7 years, now free) were granted permission to marry. (State Archives NSW; Series: 12212; Item: 4/4508)
