The Ipswich Journal Suffolk, England 4 Mar 1837 IPSWICH ADJOURNED SESSIONS SHEEP STEALING AT YAXLEY. Frederick Goddard labourer, 22, and William Moyse, Butcher, 20, both of Yaxley were charged with having on the 13th of January last, stolen a shearing sheep of the value of £1.10s.0d. the property of Mrs. Charlotte Fulcher of that place. Goddard said his wife had purchased the mutton, but he did not know when….. The deposition of the prisoner Goddard before the Magistrates, was read, in which he fully acknowledged his guilt ; alleging that he would do so, even though he should be hanged. The other prisoner made no defence.—- Mr. Fulcher being re-called, said, that Goddard was always an honest man, before he became acquainted with Moyse. The Chairman summed up the evidence, and the Jury returned a verdict of Guilty against both the prisoners : __ They were sentenced to be transported for life___Moyse, who was a hardened and ill-looking fellow, exclaimed, as he left the bar, “Thank you, my lord.” Frederick Goddard was also onboard. _______________ William Moyse was listed as 21 years old on arrival. Native Place: Suffolk. William could read, was Protestant, single, 5'6¾" tall, very dark sallow and freckled complexion, brown hair, hazel eyes, two large raised moles back of neck, two moles right side of same, four warts back of forefinger of left hand. 27/9/1841: Permission to marry Ann Gogan, came free - William was 25 - disallowed. 22/5/1844: Permission to marry Anne Goghan, age 24, cam free per 'Conrad' - William was 28 and still on Bond. 1844: Married Anne Goghan at Scot's Church, Sydney. No children found on the NSW BDM. 5/5/1846: TOL, Campbelltown. - Altered to Parramatta 22/12/1846. 10/1/1851: Sydney Gazette: Absent from his district: William Moyse, Asia, from Parramatta, on 10th December, 1850. 15/3/1852: CP
